20/20 Last night's show about Guns...

I'm sure many of you GIMer's saw last nites show on ABC's 20/20 with Diane Sawyer. It really skewed the whole thing against owning a gun for self defense. How about the scenario where they gave Joe/Jane Six pack a CCW and put them in a classroom and next thing multiple Bad Guys come storming in shooting like crazy at everything that moved and they tried to defend themselves. Guess what? Half of them couldn't even get the gun drawn no less get any shots off AND THEY ALL WERE FATALLY WOUNDED!...I seriously dought even a trained LEO could have survived that attack. I know all about the Tunnel Vision/ Lack of Motor Skills etc. during such an adreneline filled incident BUT I'LL TAKE MY CHANCES ANYWAY...I really liked the part where they gave some terrorist looking guy $5k to buy Firearms at a Gun Show, and within an hour he purchased a CARLOAD OF EBR's and Glocks. Bought the first Glock for $450 before he even got in the show. Better close that Loophole Next...Sad thing about it was my Wife agrees w/ most of the stuff...She's a Hard Sell but after 28 years, at least we are on the same page when it comes to Self Defense!

It was a blatant set-up. It was designed so they would all fail.

You can't have your serfs thinking they can defend their own lives, because then they might start thinking they can control their own lives.

Like I commented in the other thread, kind of hard to draw a concealed weapon when you have cloth gloves on, long ass T- Shirt, and your put in the center of the room, so the perp can quickly dispose of you first. Joke!

What!!?? You watch teevee??!!? Why??!?

Seriously. People should give credit where it is due. Hollywood/mass media is responsible for the changes in America's attitudes that have occurred over the last 50 years. They were "on watch". The changes took place while they were on watch. Give them credit for their cleverness.
They're not stupid.

I also like how they had Saywer in the simulation and she managed she get nailed both times. Her response to it was even when I KNEW where the bad guy was I was still not able to defend myself.

Errr ......lemme see if I can help you out there Miss Dianne.

HOW MUCH TRAINING DID YOU HAVE PRIOR TO THE TEST??

WHERE YOU MADE FAMILIAR WITH THAT WEAPON?

WHERE YOU MADE FAMILAR ON HOW TO DRAW YOUR WEAPON UNDER STRESS ??

WHERE YOU TRAINED ON HOW TO PROPERLY DRY FIRE OR DEVELOPE MUSCLE MEMORY??

WHATS THAT??? THEY DIDNT DO ANY OFTHE ABOVE ?? THEY JUST GAVE YOU A GUN AND SAID "PROTECT YOUR PARTNER??"

OH I SEE.......@#$%^&*KIN @$$HOLES

Re: 20/20 Last night's show about Guns...

I watched it and it made my blood pressure go up. I've seen one-sided shows like this before, but nothing this bad. ABC and Dianne Sawyer ought to be ashamed of themselves.

The conclusion that a person seems to have to come to at the end is: guns are only for bad people and only a bad person can use it. A person can never defend themselves, so why bother? It's better to be unarmed and helpless.

That self-defense scenario they played out was only one type of situation. At Virginia Tech, students had to hunker down in their classrooms that were adjacent to where the shooter was and try barracading the door. That would give an armed person plenty of time to draw a gun and figure out what to do. Same goes for the recent mass shootings reported in the news, where a receptionist gets called a hero for getting shot, playing dead, and then talking on the phone to the police for an hour while the cops stood outside, afraid to enter the building, fearing for their own safety. And then the police chief calls the shooter a coward afterwards because he committed suicide when the cops arrived. Would he have gotten called "a courageous person" if he had shot it out with the cops??? A coward? I guess it takes one to know one.

Also, take a look at the cargo ship pirate attacks on the high seas. The crews are not allowed to be armed because of fear that the attacking pirates might turn the guns on the crew! Sure! The pirates are unarmed to begin with, right? :sarc: And now a captain is being held hostage in a lifeboat while a navy ship sits a mile away. They say they don't want to use force. Now there's your cowards!

I'm trying to find the whole episode online, but can't seem to find it yet - does anyone have a link to watch this show?

Go to Youtube and type in "if I only had a gun". You'll get several medium sized clips. Not the whole episode, but a fairly good chunk of it.

It was just like we all said before it aired, and during:

Total and utter biased, one sided BS.

My wifes family is visitng this week, were all very pro gun. So my father in law, my wife and I were sitting down watching it. My mother comes into the room, sees us watcing a show on guns and says "Oh, what stupid gun thing are you watching now"

Shes a died in the wool, hard core, anti gun liberal. She believes guns should ONLY every be used to shoot paper targets, and MAYBE animals from time to time.

I said to her "its a 20/20 show on guns"

"oh, ok then, ill watch it, i bet this will be good, 20/20 is great."

We all just shook our heads.

Re: 20/20 Last night's show about Guns...

Problem: People are unable to defend themselves with guns unless they have extensive, on-going, never-ending training, least they lose those skills in as few as 2 or 3 months. Also, those who don't have extensive, on-going, never-ending training have their head up their asses when it comes to guns. Only trained LEOs can take on armed crazies, all according to 20/20.

Solution: Make guns more difficult to gain access to, and the problem will be solved, not even deranged people will be able to obtain them. Keep guns locked up at all times.

I said the same thing to my wife last night. What about the other classrooms in the building that would have time to react. What if 4 people in the room were armed instead of 1, and what if the shooter wasn't some cop coming into a nonlethal situation trying to rack up a body count but rather a deranged person who would also be affected by tunnel vision, etc. It all boils down to politicians and others trying to gain more power, and nothing to do with "saving the children".

Bet it would have surprised the shit out of them if one person had beaten up one of the agressors. If you can only concentrate on one person at a time, make sure you take that one person.

And if I had a gun on me and I was put into a creeepy "4-walls and nothing else" kinda room you better believe I'd have the gun out already.

What the issue is concerning weapons on the high seas is this; many Countries have various laws regarding weapons on their soil. A ship is not a sovereign enterprise...they have to comply with the laws of whatever Country they dock at. Thus, a ship registered in Liberia may be fully authorized to dock in Yemen with XX amount of firearms, but they would risk government seizure if docking in Somalia.

After a particularly long shift, I arrived home, made a bacon burger and poured a long glass of cold milk and watched the tv for a few.

The infomercial dealt with the purchase of a stun-gun; the type that requires direct contact with the recipient. Well, the scenario was this, a lady in a parking lot pushing a shopping cart. Middle of the day, broad daylight. She goes to her drivers side door which is adjacent to a van. The van door suddenly rolls open. Three guys get out and abduct her.

The infomercial goes onto say that if she had the $39.99 stun-gun, none of this would've happened.

Well, guess what? Even in my physically exhausted condition at the time, I determined that the infomercial was BS. As an armed member of society, if "I" was the 'woman' in the scenario, they would have abducted me as well. The scenario was just too overwhelming and too fast.

The major networks are in trouble...they have whored-out anything resembling news and now pursue scenario news. The what-if programs are their attempts to 'create' news, and create interest in their news.

They lose....and I'm glad that others are seeing it.

Thank God I don't watch TV. All the MSM does is spoonfeed the lemmings their emotions.

I watched this show last night. The level of non-rational propaganda was beyond extreme. That said, it looks like everything in this hatchet job has been debunked by people on the net, and the comments on ABC's website seem to reflect that.

I really HOPE that the TPTB/MSM keep doing shows like this. All they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot, and discrediting their own agenda (pun intended).

Re: 20/20 Last night's show about Guns...

Pure propaganda BS! I can accept that there are situations where you will most likely lose even when carrying concealed. LEOs get surprised and killed all the time. The only reason why I (and millions of others) am still here is because I carry and am willing to do what it takes to survive. It will be a cold day in Hell when the media lets hard facts get in the way of their tripe.

Two names (heroes) of millions

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Allen_Wilson
Mark Wilson

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Co...Life_shootings
Jeanne Assam

Of course the MSM would rather not talk about these heroes and the millions of others who have successfully defended themselves and others over the years.

And as for the banning of the "Gun Show" loophole", they may as well just call it for what it is, the banning of all PRIVATE FIREARMS SALES! Here is another word that would better describe their alterior motives, REGISTRATION!

Rant off.:banghead:
